TIRANA, Feb. 21, 2023 - Competition for the euros Albanians spend on streaming services just got bigger as SkyShowtime, a global American-European streaming conglomerate, launched in the Albanian market last week, featuring full Albanian language subtitles and the lowest promotional price on the market yet at 2.99 euros per month.

Many residents of Albania are already familiar with competing global streaming services such as Netflix and Prime Video, but Netflix does not provide any Albanian subtitles and Prime Video does so only a few select offerings.

The crowding of the Albanian market reflects increased global competition in the streaming space.

Hit shows previously unavailable to Albanian audiences such as Yellowstone and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds are now available through SkyShowtime.

Albanians are increasingly moving off traditional television and away from streaming pirated content and into legal streaming, which is now more accessible and cheaper than ever. Albanian subtitles had been the last edge of existing cable services and some pirated content websites.

A recent joint venture of Comcast and Paramount Global, SkyShowtime brings entertainment, movies, and original series from the iconic brands of Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon, DreamWorks Animation, Paramount+, SHOWTIME, Sky Studios, and Peacock.

The company said in a press release that the launch of the Albanian language of the site was part of a campaign in 20 markets encompassing over 90 million households. It is now available in Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Sweden.
