Representatives from Albania’s Interreligious Cooperation Center have met Pope Francis in Rome.
In the group included the representatives of religious communities of Elbasan, the Mufti Agim Duka and Dr. Arben Ramkaj from the Muslim Community, Dom Dorian Mjeshtri, Dom Giusepe Testa, Sokol Lulgjuraj and Benjamin Brazel from the Catholic Community, At Stavri Çipi from the Orthodox Community, Haxhi Baba Ardit Selmani from the Bektashi Community, Pastor Ilir Gjoni and Pastor Ilir Isaraj from the Evangelical Community, as well as the representatives of the women’s department in ICC, Mrs. Rudina Çollaku and Mrs. Genta Lulgjuraj.
Pope Francis praised the contribution of the Interreligious Cooperation Center in promoting religious coexistence as an inspiring model not only for Elbasan but for all Albania.
Meanwhile, the chairman of ICC Dr. Arben Ramkaj gave as a gift to the Pope, the Xhamadan, which is the symbol of the city of Elbasan. Also the executive director of ICC Mr. Sokol Lulgjuraj presented the Pope with the emblem of the Interreligious Cooperation Center.
The Board of the Interreligious Cooperation Center expressed its gratitude to the Catholic Church of Elbasan, Mr. Dorian Mjeshtri, Mr. Sokol Lulgjuraj and the Apostolic Nuncio in Tirana Luigi Bonazzi for organizing this important meeting with Pope Francis in the framework of the promotion of the Human Brotherhood Agreement, which was signed by Imam Ahmed Tajib, the Grand Mufti of Egypt and Pope Francis in Abu Dhabi, in February 2019.
