TIRANA, Sept. 30 – Following a series of violent incidents in schools around Albania during the first two weeks of the school year, police say they have increased their presence at educational institutions to improve the security situation in elementary and secondary schools around the country.
Police report they have detained for questioning 17 suspicious people who were hanging around several schools.
Police say drug dealers and sexual predators often stay close to high schools looking for possible clients or victims.
Police say that very often it has been noted that in some cases some of the 17 questioned people had conflicts with people inside the school.
Albania has been reeling from a series of violent incidents recently, including the wounding of a teenage girl in the region of Vlora, who was shot in the head inside the school by another teenager after she rebuffed his romantic advances.
