TIRANA, Sept. 17 – Verdi’s La Traviata will return to the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet as an Albanian-Italian collaboration.
“Even though this is not the first time the opera has been staged at the Opera House, we are convinced this will be the first time the opera is staged in its real greatness. This story which expresses lots of emotion will be performed by soloists of the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet in cooperation with Italian artists such as Max Jota in the role of Alfredo, Giancarlo De Lorenzo as a conductor and Primo Petris as costume and stage designer.
The opera is scheduled to stage on Sept. 22, 24 and 26 at 20.00.
In early 2013, Verdi’s La Traviata was staged as a ballet after making its premiere as Albanian-Italian cooperation on the 200th birth anniversary of Giuseppe Verdi, Italy’s most famous composer.
In Albania, La Traviata has seen six productions with the absolute premiere in 1956.
La Traviata is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. It is based on La dame aux Camꭩas (1852), a play adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas, fils. The title “La traviata” means literally The Fallen Woman, or perhaps more figuratively, The Woman Who Goes Astray. It was originally entitled Violetta, after the main character.
