Skampa Theatre Festival ready to kick off

TIRANA, Oct. 14 – This year’s 12th edition of the Skampa International theatre festival held in the city of Elbasan, central Albania, will bring together 12 Albanian and regional troupes competing from October 20 to 26.
Directed by Albania’s Andonis Filipi, the festival is considered an opportunity to exchange experience for Balkan theatres.
The festival will open with the “General of the dead Army” drama written by Ismail Kadare and staged by the Macedonia’s Skopie Theatre of Albanian Drama.
The International Theatre Festival is held annually at the local Skampa theatre in Elbasan as a contemporary festival. This event includes in its structure scenic and theatric expression of performances through exchanging experiences and ideas in national and European level.
This festival focuses on untraditional innovative, provocative and controversial theatre, searching for new forms of expression. It consists in selection of Albanian and foreigners performances.
The program includes seminars, workshops and discussions.
The first edition of International Theatre Festival “Skampa” (theatric meeting) started in 1999 as an experimental edition. The festival consists on selection of Albanian and foreign performances. The programs of the International Theatre Festival “Skampa”, consists of different modules, each one of which has its own aims, ways of organizing and funding, and this often presupposes new partnerships. The parallel program consists of seminars, workshops, discussions, debatesŮ The festival’s events take place at several venues: Skampa Theatre, Real-Scampini environment in the Castle, National Theatre of Tirana, Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana.
The International Theatre Festival “Skampa” has been recognized as a serious theatre event in Albania and abroad. Every year it attracts many spectators and festival guests.
The festival’s organizers are the Albanian Association Theatre Contemporary – A.T.K, the Ministry of Culture, the Municipality Elbasan, Skampa Theatre/National theatre Tirana/Fine Academy, the Tirana and Elbasan public universities.
