SHKODRA, Jan. 13 – In a sign of the government’s commitment and concern on the situation resulting from the floods, Prime Minister Sali Berisha held its emergency cabinet meeting Wednesday in northern Shkodra.
The premier hailed the efforts from the army and police, local authorities and also the power corporation.
He said that the best result in all that human operation, which he considered the biggest in the country, was that there has been no dead person.
But at the same time Berisha repeated the call to the flood-hit population to leave the area.
According to official figures, 11,400 hectares of land and 2,650 homes have been flooded and 5,150 persons been evacuated.
The water levels are still at a dangerous levels. That is the reason authorities insist the people should leave the area. That means that the water discharge from the three hydro power stations will continue.
