The logo of the Marijuana Party was listed in an Albanian ballot approved by Central Electoral Commission, CEC, ahead of June 28 elections, raising questions of how thoroughly the Commission is checking the ballots.
The ballot approved by the CEC as an official document and listed in its official website until it was notified by Balkan Insight, showed the logo of a US based political organisation, seeking the decriminalisation of marijuana.

“I don’t know what pot party is and certainly don’t consume marijuana,” said the spokesperson of the CEC, Leonard Olli, when contacted by Balkan Insight.

Olli denied that his institution was promoting abuse of illegal substances and claimed that all was an honest mistake.

Political parties promoting the decriminalisation of marijuana and its use for medical purposes have seen a boost in the US and Canada in the last few years.
