KORCA, Aug. 5 – Albania launched a 19.5 million euro foreign-funded project in the southeastern town of Korca aimed at improving the town’s sewerage and drainage infrastructure. The project includes repairs and the building of new sewerage and drainage systems, pumping stations and a wastewater treatment facility, the German Embassy in Albania said in a statement. The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the German government through the state-run development bank KfW, jointly finance the scheme, providing 14.5 million euro and 5.0 million euro, respectively, the statement said. The project will be carried out by the local Water Supply and Sewerage Enterprise of Korca (UKKO). It is part of a larger project for the development of Korca’s water sector, including an upgrade of the town’s drinking water infrastructure. Germany has also extended some 30 million euro for the upgrade of Korca’s water infrastructure.
