TIRANA, Oct.2 – Albania’s 12th film festival started Monday with a red carpet laid from the National Theater to the Millennium 2 cinema, but also blocking the street to the cars. On both sides of that 50 or so meters long street one could see the actors, films and producers of the Albanian cinematography. The festival was held after a six-year absence. The launching ceremony was held at the Millennium 2 cinema, the only one in the Albanian capital. Participants hoped that holding the festival would bring more dignity to their profession which has been sidestepped in post-communist Albania.
Films in the morning are free while in the afternoon and evening with invitations. The festival will have films, documentaries, alternative and cartoon films. There are also films from Kosova, for the first time in festivals in Albania. “This edition is a cultural event that will bring the most distinguished achievements also because of the lack of the festival since six years,” said president of the festival Xhevdet Ferri.
